GM has presented a new solution to the noise problem of car roofs

General Motors (GM) has developed a new technological solution to reinforce the roof section of the GMC Canyon vehicle. This improvement is specifically aimed at addressing the issue that arises in automated car wash facilities.

The GMC Canyon models produced between 2023-2025 (excluding the luxury variant and without the RPO CAC option) may experience increased roof elasticity due to the air drying system's pressure during the automated washing process, resulting in significant noise. To resolve this issue, GM has developed a method for installing special reinforcing panels and a longitudinal stiffness rib.

The reinforcement method is carried out as follows:
Five special reinforcing panels are placed in the front part of the roof's interior.
Before installing the stiffness rib, additional holes are made in the roof section using a special template.
Structural adhesive material is applied to the ends of the rib.
A special vibration-damping material is applied along the rib.
The rib is secured to the roof using fasteners, and then the interior covering is returned to its place.
As a result of this reinforcement, the GMC Canyon roof increases its rigidity level, prevents noise during the automated washing process, and improves the vehicle's stability.
