Explanation was given for Ozodbek Nazarbekov receiving money at the wedding

A video showing Culture Minister Ozodbek Nazarbekov singing at a wedding ceremony and accepting money handed to him has sparked widespread discussion on social media. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Ministry of Culture has issued an official statement regarding this incident. According to the ministry, the video was recorded on October 25, 2025, at the wedding of one of the ministry’s employees.
The video shows fans handing money to the minister. The official statement emphasized that this situation was not pre-planned.
It was taken into account that refusing the money handed to the minister could be perceived by the wedding participants as disrespect or disregard. Therefore, a positive attitude towards the situation was expressed.
The ministry noted that giving money to singers at wedding ceremonies is not against current legislation. It is considered part of the national customs and values that have existed among our people since ancient times.
Such practices are referred to as “orzu-havas” in Uzbek traditions. Additionally, officials reminded that Ozodbek Nazarbekov is not only a government official but also a well-known artist.
He holds the titles of People's Artist of Uzbekistan, Karakalpakstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, and is recognized as a distinguished cultural worker. It was emphasized that the situation observed at the wedding should be understood in connection with his singing career.
The statement reads: “Any person, regardless of the position they hold, does not separate from their profession. This situation arose from that perspective.”
At the same time, it was reported that the Anti-Corruption Agency has submitted a report to the Ministry of Culture regarding this incident. It should be recalled that this is not the first controversial case involving Ozodbek Nazarbekov.
In 2024, he participated in an advertisement for the Kingsman clothing store, and in 2025, he appeared in a commercial for a private university. At that time, the ministry also stated that there was no material interest involved in these actions.
