Construction work in the informal sector in Uzbekistan increased

New data has been announced regarding the scale and growth rate of the informal sector in Uzbekistan's construction industry, reported by Zamin.uz.
According to a report from the Statistics Agency, during the first five months of 2026, representatives of the informal sector successfully completed construction works worth a total of 26.7 trillion soums in our country. These figures indicate a rapid increase in activity within the sector.
According to analyses, the recorded indicator is 14.6 percent higher compared to the same period in 2025, indicating that the informal sector's position in the construction market is strengthening.
When considering the total volume of construction work, the informal sector accounted for 25.4 percent. In other words, nearly one-fourth of all construction work carried out across the republic falls within this sector.
At the same time, small enterprises and microfirms continue to dominate the construction market. During the reporting period, economic entities in this category carried out works worth 50.8 trillion soums.
This figure equals 48.5 percent of the total construction volume in the country, confirming that small businesses are the main driving force of the sector. The activity of large construction organizations also remains stable.
They carried out construction and installation works worth 27.4 trillion soums during January–May. The share of large enterprises in the overall market amounted to 26.1 percent.
The cited data indicate that in Uzbekistan, the construction sector is developing proportionally across different categories of entities, with private initiatives and small-scale construction projects gaining increasing importance in economic growth.
