Weddings in Uzbekistan are being held with the mindset of the 19th century. This was stated by historian Bahtiyor Holmurodov in his appearance on YouTube.
In the “Qurultoy” podcast, social issues related to Uzbek weddings were analyzed. According to Bahtiyor Holmurodov, the time has long come to reduce spending on weddings and invest in education.
“In 2014, there was the Institute for Monitoring Civil Society. At that time, I received information from my mentor Bahtiyor aka Isoqov. He mentioned a figure. This should not only alert us but also make us think. That year, Tajikistan's gross domestic product was around 10 billion dollars.
The people of Uzbekistan spent 7.5 billion dollars on weddings that same year. This is data from 2014. I also received information from my mentor about 2024. Wedding expenses have approached almost 12 billion dollars. That is a very large figure. Behind this lies the fate of individuals. It is time to seriously consider spending the money saved from weddings on education.
The reason is that one cannot live in the 21st century with the mindset of the 16th or 19th century. Alixon Tora Sog‘uniy said:
"If Uzbeks united for any task as they do for breakfast, there would be no great nation among them",
there is a profound meaning behind this,” said the expert.
