
On the night of May 8 to May 9, a terrifying incident occurred in a multi-story building located on Spitamen Street in the "Bog‘isaroy" neighborhood of Samarkand city — a gas-air mixture explosion took place. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Rescuers quickly arrived at the scene
Upon receiving the report of the explosion, fire-rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene and began to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. The iron-concrete structures of the building where the incident occurred were destroyed due to kinetic impact.
As a result, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors of the building, as well as the basement, were severely damaged. It has been noted that there was no fire at the time of the incident.
6 citizens lost their lives
During the search and rescue operations, it was reported that the bodies of 6 citizens were found under the rubble. So far, no official information has been provided about the identities of the deceased.
A headquarters was established with the participation of government services
In order to eliminate the consequences of the incident, an emergency headquarters was established under the leadership of the head of the Samarkand region's Emergency Situations Department. The following organizations were involved in the headquarters:
- Prosecutor's office;
- Department of Internal Affairs;
- National Guard;
- Health Department;
- "Hududgazta’minot";
- Local administration and emergency services.
At the scene, 10 special vehicles and fire-rescue equipment are being used for emergency and rescue operations. The search for survivors under the rubble and the removal of hazardous materials are ongoing.
An initial investigation has begun
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that preliminary investigative checks are currently being conducted regarding this incident. The causes of the gas leak and explosion are still unknown. Specialists are preparing technical conclusions regarding the incident.
