Former player of the Russian national team Dmitriy Sennikov expressed his opinion about the plans of the country's sports ministry to introduce new restrictions on the number of foreign players in the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to the changes currently under discussion, each club can register 10 foreign players in its squad, but no more than five foreign players can be on the field at the same time. Sennikov emphasized that such restrictions could be beneficial for the development of local football.
He reminded that he has always supported the participation of quality foreign players, but he particularly stressed that the main focus should be on developing local players. According to Sennikov, these changes will help enhance the internal capabilities of Russian football.
He acknowledged that foreign players can raise the level of the national championship with their skills, but noted that creating opportunities and a competitive environment for local players is the most important factor. For this reason, Sennikov believes that imposing restrictions on the number of foreign players could be an important step for the development of Russian football.
