Dmitriy Andreev, former sports director of the "Orenburg" football club, expressed his opinion about the possible introduction of a limit on the number of foreign players in the Russian football championship. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to Andreev, based on the proposal from the Ministry of Sports, clubs may be allowed to include a maximum of 10 foreign players in their roster, and no more than five foreign players may be on the field at the same time. He emphasized that if this regulation comes into effect, there is a possibility of providing more playing practice for local young players, but this situation could negatively impact the overall level of the championship.
In Andreev's opinion, many important results in teams are achieved precisely due to foreign players. If the restrictions are tightened, opportunities will open up for local players, but the level of competition may decrease.
He stated that under the current regulations, clubs in the Russian championship are allowed to register 13 foreign players, and it is stipulated that their number on the field at the same time should not exceed eight. Andreev pointed out that these changes could help in the development of young players, but they are not without the risk of negatively affecting the competitiveness and quality of the championship.
For this reason, it is necessary to make a well-considered decision regarding the limitation of the number of foreign players.
