Aleksandr Tukmanov, former vice-president of the Russian Football Union, shared his views on the legionnaire limit in the Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, it is advisable for a team not to field more than five legionnaires at the same time. Tukmanov believes that having six Russian players on the field is considered good.
Furthermore, if local players are competitive, only three or four legionnaires may appear on the field. Thus, he emphasizes that not playing more than five legionnaires is the right decision.
Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyaryov recently announced that starting from the 2028/2029 season, a "10+5" formula limit will be introduced in the Premier League. According to this formula, a maximum of ten legionnaires can be registered for the season, and no more than five legionnaires can be on the field at the same time.
Currently, the "13+8" formula is in effect. These changes are aimed at the development of Russian football and increasing opportunities for local players.
