Discussions are underway about holding the FIFA 2030 World Cup final tournament with the participation of 64 teams. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
This initiative was initially proposed by CONMEBOL, the federation uniting South American football associations, but it was raised for the first time in direct negotiations with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. According to CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez, this tournament will be a historic event marking the centenary of the World Cup and will serve to make football a widely celebrated festival around the world.
At the same time, the 2030 tournament will be remarkable for its uniqueness, as it will be held simultaneously on three continents: South America, Europe, and Africa. The host countries selected are Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
However, in Europe, this idea is being approached with caution. UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin diplomatically called this initiative a mistake.
Thus, FIFA and the international football community face a significant and complex task, with important decisions expected to be made regarding the format of future World Cups.
