Following reports that Madrid's "Real" club may offer Xabi Alonso the position of head coach for the new season, the leadership of "Bayer" is preparing for potential changes. Insider Nicolo Schira has revealed that the Leverkusen club is considering several candidates to replace Xabi Alonso, including Francesc Fabregas, Imanol Alguasil, and Erik ten Hag.
37-year-old Fabregas has been managing the Italian Serie A team "Komo" this season. He took over the management of the team in the summer of 2024, and currently, his club is in 11th place in Serie A with 34 matches played. This result is considered excellent for a newly promoted team.
As a second candidate, Imanol Alguasil, who has been active at Spain's "Real Sociedad" club since December 2018, is mentioned. The 53-year-old experienced specialist had previously announced his intention to leave the team at the end of the season. Currently, "Real Sociedad" is participating in 33 matches in La Liga and is in 10th place in the league table.
The third potential candidate is Erik ten Hag, who is well-known to football fans. The 54-year-old Dutch coach has been unemployed since October of last year. He last managed England's "Manchester United" team but was dismissed due to unsatisfactory results.
It has been reported that the "Bayer" leadership has included these three candidates on the short-list and is thoroughly analyzing their experience and playing style to elevate the team to a higher level. Although Xabi Alonso has not yet reached an official agreement with "Real," the Leverkusen club wants to be prepared for any situation.
