Nodirbek and Javohir are leading at Tata Steel

The fierce competition continues at the Tata Steel Chess–2026 tournament held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The sixth round of the tournament has concluded, and it is precisely after this round that the successes of the Uzbek chess school became clearly evident. In this round, Uzbekistan’s representative Nodirbek Abdusattorov defeated the reigning world champion, Indian Gukesh Dommaraju.
This victory is one of the most important results in the tournament and made Nodirbek the sole leader of the competition. The game was intense and exciting, with suspense lasting until the final moments.
Another Uzbek chess player, Javohir Sindarov, also delivered a successful performance against Indian Aravindh Chithambaram and secured a draw. This result was crucial in ensuring Javohir’s high standing in the tournament table.
After the sixth round, in the Masters group, Nodirbek Abdusattorov is leading with 4.5 points. Javohir Sindarov follows closely in second place with 4 points.
Among the other participants, Vladimir Fedoseev, Hans Niemann, and Vincent Keymer are chasing the leaders with 3.5 points. The reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju, with 3 points, remains in the middle of the standings, indicating unexpected twists in the tournament.
The first half of the Tata Steel Chess–2026 tournament is bringing genuine joy to Uzbek chess fans. Several challenging rounds lie ahead, but the current results once again confirm the strength of the Uzbek chess school on the international stage.
