Arbeloa: "It is necessary to fight against racism"

Sports09:22, 18-02-2026

Real Madrid head coach Alvaro Arbeloa expressed his opinion regarding the racism incident that occurred during the Champions League match against Benfica. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

This was reported by *euro-football.ru*. During the match, Real player Vinicius Junior informed the referee that Benfica winger Gianluca Prestiani had directed racist insults towards him.

Due to this incident, Vinicius considered leaving the field but ultimately decided to continue playing. Alvaro Arbeloa commented on the event: "Ask Prestiani himself about this matter.

Everyone saw what happened. He covered his mouth with his shirt while speaking, so look for the answer from him." Additionally, the coach emphasized his full support for Vinicius: "We fully support Vini.

The fight against racism is necessary, especially when it concerns football players," he said. The incident occurred shortly after Vinicius managed to score a goal, which remained the only goal of the match.

However, Benfica representatives, including Jose Mourinho, considered Vinicius's style of celebrating the goal disrespectful.
