In the 35th round of the Spanish championship, the "Barcelona" team achieved a dramatic and historic victory over their arch-rival, "Real Madrid." The Catalans, trailing 0:2, made an incredible comeback and defeated their opponent 4:3.
In the press conference held after the match, "Barcelona" head coach Hans-Dieter Flick praised the team's determined victory and expressed gratitude to the fans and players:
“Today's victory is a real gift for our fans and players. This is simply a fantastic result. It is no secret that "Real" is a team of very high quality. It was not easy to make such a comeback after a tough 120-minute match in the Champions League semifinals in Milan. However, my players showed their strength both mentally and physically, and they managed to pull it off. To be honest, after such intense and nerve-wracking confrontations, I also need to check my heart,” Flick humorously remarked.
However, the German coach did not shy away from pointing out the shortcomings in his team's performance even after the victory. He particularly emphasized the need to pay serious attention to the mistakes in the team's defensive line:
“We achieved victory, but this game showed that we still have a lot of work to do in our defense. There are almost no problems with pressing and attacking actions, but if mistakes like the one that led to the first goal keep happening, it could cause us major problems in the future. Allowing such mistakes gives our opponents a significant advantage. Therefore, we need to improve our team play further,” the Catalan coach emphasized.
The coach also highlighted that due to matches occurring every three days, there is not enough opportunity to work on all the shortcomings during training:
“We aim to grow physically and tactically. However, right now we are playing one game every three days, which does not allow us to accomplish much in training. But this is not an excuse for us. When we plan our summer preparations, we will pay serious attention to addressing these shortcomings,” Flick said.
Currently, with three rounds remaining in La Liga, "Barcelona" is leading with 82 points. Their closest pursuer, "Real," is 7 points behind the Catalans. If "Barsa" wins in the next round, they will officially secure the championship ahead of schedule.
