The US Air and Marine Operations (AMO) service detained four citizens of Uzbekistan on Wednesday who were attempting to illegally enter Vieques Island.
According to official information, the incident was detected on May 7 by the Fajardo marine unit. Border officials stopped and inspected a boat heading towards the island. There were a total of seven passengers on the boat, three of whom were US citizens, while the remaining four (three men and one woman) were citizens of Uzbekistan. During the inspection, it was found that the Uzbek passengers did not have any official documents necessary for entering or residing in the US.
Preliminary information indicates that this vessel had departed from St. John Island, located in the US Virgin Islands.
In this case, Ramey border service officials detained the four citizens of Uzbekistan for the purpose of processing their immigration documents and deporting them from US territory.
It is worth noting that earlier reports had circulated about a group of Uzbeks who were deported by the US government and returned to their homeland. The US border and immigration service is currently implementing strict measures to address illegal entry into the country.
