England football tests the "challenge" system for coaches

Debates around the video assistant referee system, known as VAR, continue in the football world. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
IFAB, the body responsible for creating the rules, has made a new decision allowing the review of incorrectly awarded corner kicks, dismissals following a second yellow card, and cards shown to the wrong player through VAR. These changes were introduced to focus on minor but important incidents in football matches.
However, England does not intend to stop there. According to British media, the English Football Association plans to test a "challenge" system for coaches.
In this system, clear decisions such as offsides remain under VAR control, but controversial situations like fouls, handballs, or penalty awards can be reviewed upon the coach's initiative. Reports suggest that each team's head coach may be granted the right to make two "challenges" during a match.
If after video review the coach's objection is found to be valid, they retain this right. Otherwise, one of the challenges is lost.
This system is seen as a mechanism that forces coaches to make decisions responsibly. The main goal of the system is to prevent VAR from slowing down the pace of the game by intervening in every situation and to ensure that only important incidents are reviewed.
It is expected that unnecessary stoppages will decrease and the natural rhythm of the game will be maintained. Currently, it is unknown when and where this system will be tested.
However, since it requires a full VAR infrastructure, it is more likely to be trialed in high-level competitions. Some sources say that such trials could take place in the English Women's Super League.
In short, football is on the verge of new changes. While IFAB has expanded VAR's authority, England is seeking ways to make the system more effective.
If the coaches' challenge is implemented, it could open a new chapter not only in refereeing but also in tactics and game management in football. A time may come when coaches' decisions on the field will also carry decisive importance.
