Infantino: Mexico will be ready for the 2026 World Cup

The president of the International Football Federation, Gianni Infantino, expressed full confidence that despite security concerns in Mexico, the country will be able to properly host the matches of the 2026 World Cup. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
After a phone conversation with Mexico's president Claudia Sheinbaum, he once again emphasized his strong trust in the country. According to Infantino, the matches planned in Mexico will be held according to the scheduled timetable.
According to the official calendar, Mexico will host 13 out of the 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup. These matches will take place in the cities of Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
The FIFA leader's statement came against the backdrop of recent violence in Mexico. According to Reuters and AP reports, after the death of the leader of the "New Generation Jalisco" cartel, clashes and serious security concerns have arisen in several regions.
Some concerns even relate to the states where the upcoming World Cup matches will be held. Nevertheless, Infantino said the situation is under control and expressed confidence that the tournament in Mexico will proceed "as smoothly as possible."
The Mexican side also announced that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of fans, teams, and guests. This topic is of particular interest to Uzbek fans.
Because according to the official schedule, the Uzbekistan national team will play one of its World Cup matches against Colombia on June 17 at a stadium in Mexico City. Therefore, the security issue in Mexico is directly important for us as well.
Another important point: according to the official calendar, the 2026 World Cup will start on June 11 and end on July 19. In short, Infantino expressed open trust in Mexico.
However, security questions have not completely disappeared. For this reason, every week leading up to the World Cup remains a serious test both for Mexico and FIFA.
