Iran footballers commemorated the victims of Minab with a symbolic gesture

Before their friendly match against the Nigeria national team in Belek, Turkey, the Iran national football team held a tribute and remembrance ceremony. Zamin.uz reported on this event.
As the players entered the field, they carried purple and light red backpacks, holding them high while the national anthem was played. Through this symbolic gesture, Iranian athletes honored more than 170 people, mostly students, who were killed on February 28 in a rocket strike on the Shajarayi Toyyiba Girls' School in Minab.
This tribute was not limited to remembering the victims but also aimed to express deep condolences to their grieving families. As Muhammad Nabi, Vice President of the Iranian Football Federation, emphasized, the idea for this event originated with the players themselves, whose primary intention was to demonstrate humanity and respect within society.
According to reports, US military forces struck the school due to an error based on outdated intelligence data. Although the United States has not yet officially acknowledged the incident, it has announced that an investigation is underway.
Such actions by Iranian footballers hold significant importance beyond the sports field and are regarded as a shining example of honoring human dignity and memory. Through this event, the athletes once again demonstrated their solidarity with the nation during times of hardship and sorrow.
