On June 20, 2024, one of France's most famous sports newspapers, L'Équipe, reported that the 'Monaco' club wants to sell 29-year-old Russian midfielder Aleksandr Golovin. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
The online publication "Euro-Futbol.Ru" is speculating about which team the experienced player might continue his career with. Currently, Golovin is considered one of the key players for 'Monaco'. He joined the club in 2018, initially struggling to become a leader in the team and needing some time to adapt.
Each season, he improved his skills and increased his confidence, eventually becoming a key player for the team. In the 2023/24 French championship, Golovin was named 'Monaco's best player' and was included in the symbolic team of the season by several prestigious publications.
Unfortunately, Golovin's career at 'Monaco' has been plagued by injuries. Last season was particularly tough for him, as he suffered injuries six times throughout the season, missing a total of 155 days or 16 matches.
Due to these injuries, he was excluded from the team's main lineup for the first time in many years. Perhaps his youth, constant injuries, and Golovin's own comments about returning to Russia may have forced the club's management to put the player up for transfer. If Golovin wants to continue developing in his career, he must not take a step back.
It would be advisable for the Russian player to move to a team that plays in one of Europe's strongest leagues and regularly participates in the Champions League. Previously, Germany's 'Borussia Dortmund' showed interest in Golovin.
In 2023, 'Borussia' offered 40 million euros, which fully satisfied 'Monaco', but the player rejected the move. 'Borussia' regularly participates in the Champions League and is a team that recently reached the finals.
Although the team's performance last season was not very good, they secured a spot in the Champions League. Another team, 'Newcastle', has shown interest in Golovin. It is currently unclear how feasible this transfer is, but it should be considered.
'Newcastle' also secured a spot in the Champions League at the end of the season. If Golovin finds it difficult to elevate his level, he might consider moving to Turkey's 'Galatasaray' or 'Fenerbahce'. Recently, the financial situation of these clubs has improved, allowing them to acquire good players.
In Turkey, Golovin would immediately gain star status. Additionally, the opportunity to work under a famous coach like Jose Mourinho is a significant advantage. Saudi Arabia and MLS leagues are financially attractive, but it is hard to imagine Golovin playing in those leagues.
However, after receiving a substantial financial offer, the player might change his decision and opt to play in unconventional leagues. So far, there has been no interest from Spanish teams. Of course, the Russian Premier League is also an important option.
It seems that Golovin is not in a hurry to return to Russia, but if there are no other options, he will have to go back. 'Zenit' is seen as the most favorable option, as it is the richest team in Russia.
He will not move to 'Spartak', and the only other option is CSKA, but he would need to be ready to significantly reduce his salary to move there. Regarding the price, in better times, 'Monaco' would not sell Golovin for less than 40-50 million euros. The situation has changed in the last year, and his price is now around 15 million euros.
Of course, since his contract lasts until 2029, the price may be slightly higher, but it is difficult to find a buyer for a young player who frequently gets injured. Golovin shows quality play, but this quality is not consistent.
Buying such a player is a significant risk for any club. Perhaps that is why he is still sitting at 'Monaco' and not playing for clubs like 'Arsenal'. Author: Dmitriy Milyaev
