Veteran Vladimir Ponomaryov shared his thoughts on CSKA's participation in the Bratsk Cup in an exclusive interview. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, this tournament was a good training opportunity for CSKA. The new coach came in and had the chance to test all the players.
Despite the Serbs being weak, this experience was beneficial for the team. Ponomaryov also emphasized that there are still shortcomings in the team's defense, which raises concerns ahead of the Super Cup on June 12.
In the interview, he mentioned that there are changes in CSKA's game. The game has accelerated, players are passing the ball faster, transitions from the midfield have improved, and wing attacks have increased.
These changes are noted to be the work of coach Chyelistin. While discussing the team's readiness for the season, he highlighted that the physical condition is good, but the tactical performance against strong opponents still needs to be tested.
He also commented on the arrival of midfielder Mateo Alves to CSKA. Despite his age, it was said that he could benefit the team.
However, it was also mentioned that there are enough players from their youth ranks in the team, and some players might not be able to make it to the starting lineup. Ponomaryov also talked about the players who have left the team.
He noted that none of them provided significant help to the team and that it would be difficult to remember them. Overall, he positively assessed CSKA's current state but pointed out the need for improvements in future games.
