Former Moscow "Spartak" team and USSR national team defender Yevgeniy Lovchev commented on the news about the capital "Torpedo" team's exit from the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
The Russian Football Union made this decision due to attempts to influence some of the matches of the "Torpedo" team in the first league during the 2024/2025 season. According to the expert, it is regrettable what has happened to the "Torpedo" team, especially the team's low standings and the lack of sponsors supporting it.
He reminded that the team has a rich history and pointed out that at one time "Spartak" could not defeat "Torpedo" either. It is currently unknown who will take "Torpedo's" place among the participants of the Russian Premier League.
Media reports suggest that this position could be given to the "Ural" or "Orenburg" teams. There is also a possibility that the number of teams participating in the Russian championship may be reduced to 15.
