Google announced on its official blog that, contrary to previous plans, it has decided to refrain from deleting shortened URL addresses in the form of “https://goo.gl/...”. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Initially, the company had planned to stop servicing these links starting from August 25, 2025. This decision had raised concerns among many users.
In its statement, Google emphasized that these links are connected to millions of documents, videos, messages, and other important materials, prompting the company to carefully consider user feedback and revisit its decision. Therefore, only goo.gl links that have not been used for a long time and are inactive will be deleted after August 25.
If a link is inactive, users will be shown a warning message. Additionally, all goo.gl format links that are currently active in redirection will continue to work after August 25.
Google recommends that users check their links. If a link redirects to another page without providing information when clicked, it means it is active and will not be deleted.
This decision demonstrates Google’s readiness to listen to user needs and pay attention to them. Given that millions of websites and applications distribute important content through shortened links, this change is considered positive news for the wider community.
Google's move is being evaluated as an important initiative aimed at facilitating daily tasks in the technology sector.
