NASA astronaut Butch Uilmor has completed his 25-year career and retired. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He is considered an experienced specialist who has spent a total of 464 days in space and flown on four different spacecraft. His last mission began in June 2024, during which he traveled to the International Space Station aboard the Starliner capsule with his colleague Suni Williams.
Initially, this mission was planned to last eight days, but due to technical issues, they were forced to stay at the station for nine months. At the end of the mission, they were returned to Earth via a SpaceX spacecraft.
NASA leadership highly praised Uilmor's dedication and professional work. It was emphasized that his courage and professional skills would serve as a great source of inspiration for future astronauts.
Butch Uilmor retired at the age of 62, which is about twenty years older than the typical selection age for astronauts. He joined NASA in 2000.
In his final statement, Uilmor noted that his interest in space has always pushed him forward, but he never forgot the beauty and significance of Earth. Even after retirement, he will continue to actively participate in research on the effects of space flights on human health.
