Dyson equips its modern toothbrush with an optical camera and AI

Dyson has released a modern toothbrush equipped with an optical micro-camera and artificial intelligence algorithms for direct tooth control. One.uz reports.

This device identifies poorly cleaned areas on the teeth in real time and directs a stream of water and mouthwash specifically to those points. Complete data on the process is transmitted to the user's smartphone.

How does the technology work? Dyson engineers have combined a high-precision optical and mechanical system to eliminate the human factor in tooth cleaning and address difficult areas that are often missed.

Through rapid optical analysis, the camera analyzes 28 frames per second, scanning the condition of the teeth and the narrow spaces between them. With lightning-fast precision, the device detects plaque or leftover food particles in less than 0.1 seconds and directs a powerful stream of mouthwash to those exact coordinates.

Through smartphone synchronization, users can monitor cleaning quality and a map of their oral cavity via a mobile app, seeing which areas require additional care. How smart is the device?

The presented gadget is not just a simple electric toothbrush but an autonomous ecosystem with complex software. The database is as follows: the device's algorithms were trained using machine learning based on 470,000 real images of teeth and gums, allowing it to recognize any anatomical structure without error.

The software codebase contains nearly 16 million lines of code—a scale that places it alongside other technologically complex modern systems. Is the $499 price justified?

Global sales of the innovative gadget officially began on September 1. The device is priced at $499.

Although this is a significantly higher price compared to traditional premium electric toothbrushes, the manufacturer promotes its ability to deliver the effectiveness of professional dental cleaning at home as its main advantage. Do you think such a $499 toothbrush equipped with a micro-camera and AI can truly save on the costs of visiting a dentist, or is it just another expensive marketing product?
