Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup has temporarily halted its sales
Tesla has instructed its agents to temporarily halt the delivery of the Cybertruck electric pickup to customers. This was reported by Electrek. The company explained this decision by stating that the stainless steel body panels are not well adhered, and this issue could worsen over time.
Body panel issues and safety concerns
The body parts of the Cybertruck are particularly causing problems for users in cold climate regions. Some vehicle owners are reporting that metal parts are detaching due to the adhesive material holding the body panels freezing. This issue has been raised before, but it has not yet been fully resolved by Tesla. Recent widely circulated images show a Cybertruck's front bumper completely detached.
Customers are filing complaints with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding such issues. They have reported dangerous defects such as sharp-edged metal parts protruding from the body, vibrations caused by wind, and excessive noise.
Gas pedal and exterior covering issues
The Cybertruck has encountered various technical problems during its production process. The main issues include:
- Defects in the gas pedal, which can stick or completely detach;
- Insufficient strength of the body plastic parts;
- Production defects in some models.
YouTube blogger WhistlinDiesel conducted a durability test on the Cybertruck, proving that it can be easily damaged. This has sparked heated discussions among the public.
Tesla's changes to the body frame and their impact
Tesla announced this week that it has decided to change the Cybertruck frame from steel to aluminum. This could increase the body weight and decrease the vehicle's payload capacity. Previously, Elon Musk stated about the Cybertruck, "We are making it very strong and with high payload capacity." However, recent changes raise doubts about the fulfillment of this promise.
Sales results and financial incentives
Cybertruck sales are falling short of expectations. According to Cox Automotive, Tesla sold only 39,000 Cybertrucks in 2024. This figure is significantly lower than the production capacity – the company has the ability to produce over 125,000 vehicles per year.
To stimulate sales, Tesla has implemented a financial program. The company is currently offering auto loans at a 2-year interest rate. Additionally, the U.S. government may provide a tax incentive of $7,500 for buyers of the All-Wheel Drive version ($80,000).
Social and political support
While the Cybertruck currently leads in sales figures compared to other electric pickups, it could become one of Tesla's biggest failures. Although the number of initial orders reached 2 million, production issues have caused this number to decline.
At the same time, former U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Americans to support Tesla products. This may provide additional motivation for the company.
Nevertheless, the issues surrounding the Cybertruck, particularly regarding quality and reliability, cast doubt on its long-term prospects. How quickly and effectively Tesla addresses these problems could impact its market position.
