Substack company has introduced the ability to direct users to web subscriptions directly within its iOS app in the United States. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This update came as a result of changes to the App Store rules in May. Now users can subscribe via the website through an external payment link without leaving the app.
Substack offers users two payment methods: Apple in-app payment or payment made through the web. The in-app price may be automatically set higher to cover Apple’s commission, but creators have the option to disable this feature.
The platform continues to take a 10% share from web subscription prices. This update applies only to new subscriptions; a complete abandonment of Apple’s payment system is not yet possible.
According to Substack data, more than 30,000 publications have implemented the in-app payment system, and initial tests have led to an increase in paid subscriptions, although exact figures have not been disclosed. The company is also exploring opportunities related to artificial intelligence and adapting to UK regulations.
