The Australian government has decided to ban children under 16 from using social networks. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This law will come into effect on December 10. The government's main goal is to protect children from the negative effects of social networks.
According to the new law, social network platforms must not allow children under 16 to create accounts and must close existing accounts. If companies do not comply with this requirement, they will be fined up to 50 million Australian dollars.
Experts emphasize that there are various methods to verify age. For example, verification through government-issued documents, obtaining parental consent, or using facial recognition technologies can be applied.
However, none of these methods provide a complete guarantee and there is a possibility of errors occurring. Additionally, there are concerns regarding data privacy issues.
Some platforms may store users' personal data for a long time or share it with third parties, which poses additional risks. Recent surveys show that most parents support banning the use of social networks.
At the same time, some experts express concerns that children might completely disconnect from the internet or be directed to more dangerous sites. This issue requires serious attention.
