The number of cyberattacks in the maritime transport sector worldwide is increasing. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Criminals are attempting to breach electronic communication systems to steal financial information or take control of company systems. Through this, they demand ransom payments from companies.
In recent years, companies have suffered significant financial losses due to cyberattacks. In 2022 and 2023, expenses related to such attacks doubled, averaging $550,000.
In some cases, ransom payments exceed $3 million. Maritime transport accounts for 80 percent of global trade.
Therefore, cyberattacks complicate the delivery processes and increase companies' expenses. Industry experts emphasize that digital systems and outdated technologies create opportunities for cybercriminals.
To ensure security, the International Maritime Organization has introduced new cybersecurity regulations. Companies are strengthening security measures within their systems and preparing against cyberattacks.
Through these measures, efforts are being made to ensure the stability and safety of maritime transport.
