BBC's cybersecurity correspondent Joe Tidy received a strange offer from criminals. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
They asked the journalist for access rights to his work computer and stated that they were ready to pay a large sum of money in return. The group, calling themselves "Medusa," initially promised a 15 percent share, later increasing it to 25 percent as a "gift."
Their main goal was to steal BBC data and force the company to pay a ransom. The hackers sent the journalist a secret code and asked him to run it on his computer.
They also sent numerous requests to his phone, attempting to break the account password. BBC's information security department quickly detected the situation, disconnected the journalist from the system, and took additional protective measures.
Experts emphasize that the risk of such cyberattacks is increasing. Therefore, special attention must be paid to information security.
Cyberattacks are not always predictable, so it is important to strengthen precautionary measures.
