At the beginning of September, the UK Home Office sent a new technical request to Apple. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Rozetked, citing a source from the Financial Times, the request requires Apple to provide access to the encrypted iCloud backup data of British users.
In January 2025, the UK government adopted a document that envisages global access to encrypted user data. In response, Apple filed an appeal and disabled the end-to-end encryption protection feature in the UK.
In August, US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard stated that the UK had canceled this request under pressure from Washington. However, according to Financial Times sources, the US is currently not applying pressure, and London has resumed its plan.
The privacy advocacy organization Privacy International warns that allowing access to such data for only one country negatively affects the security of users worldwide. Apple and the UK Home Office have not yet issued official comments regarding this situation.
