The United Kingdom's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has defined Google’s strategic position in the online search and advertising market and approved the introduction of new and stricter rules against it. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision, recognizing Google’s long-term and stable position in the market, provides an opportunity to take special measures aimed at strengthening competition. This status is not an accusation against Google but serves as a basis for future regulatory actions.
The covered services include the search engine, search advertisements, AI-based AI Overviews and AI Mode, as well as the “Discover” feed, “Top Stories,” and News tabs. At the same time, the Google News app and website, along with synchronized search services, are excluded from this regulation.
In its response, Google stated that some control measures might negatively affect innovative processes and complicate the development of new products. Possible future measures include giving users the option to switch to other search engines via a choice screen, ensuring fairness in search results, controlling publishers' use of content, and implementing consent mechanisms for artificial intelligence services.
These steps are aimed at increasing competition and protecting users’ interests, serving to create a fair environment in the market.
