OpenAI Pauses Sora Program and Disney Drops Out of $1 Billion Funding

OpenAI company has temporarily stopped the world-famous AI video creator Sora program. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision is having a serious impact not only in the technology sector but also on major collaborations in Hollywood. According to The Information publication, after Disney studio halted product activities, it is giving up the expected one billion dollar funding allocated to OpenAI company.
The news was announced by Rozetked.me site and this situation has aroused great interest among industry representatives. On March 24, OpenAI announced that the operation of the Sora program was temporarily stopped, but at that time refrained from explaining the exact reason.
Later it became known that the company had completed the training process of a new and powerful AI model internally named Spud. According to reports, temporarily shutting down the Sora program and delaying its integration into the ChatGPT system served to free up the computing power necessary for the new model.
This difficult but effective measure was taken by the company management. At the same time, OpenAI is also restructuring internally.
The company CEO Sam Altman is loosening direct control over the security and protection departments. Now these important groups operate under the leadership of Mark Chen and Greg Brockman.
Altman is focusing his attention on fundraising, organizing supply chains, and building new data centers. These changes are aimed at further strengthening the company’s future strategy.
Although the Sora program and its API have been suspended, OpenAI’s research in AI-based video creation will not end completely. On the contrary, the company is expected to continue work in this direction and in the future will pay more attention to long-term world simulations, i.e., models that more accurately reflect real life.
The collaboration between OpenAI and Disney was announced in December 2025. According to plans, Disney aimed to license its characters through Sora and implement this technology into the Disney+ streaming service.
Due to the current situation with Sora being stopped, it is reported that the studio is temporarily not planning to continue the investment.
