Discord platform error caused thousands of users to be logged out

Discord, the popular communication platform, has officially acknowledged a serious technical flaw in its AI-powered moderation system, Zamin.uz reported.
According to reports, due to this error, the personal profiles of over 8,000 users were blocked without any valid reason during the past two months. The system incorrectly classified completely harmless images as dangerous content.
The issue gained widespread attention after being highlighted by influential publications. The root cause lies in the platform’s automated security filters, which mistakenly flagged simple spreadsheets, chessboard images, various in-game graphics, and images with white or transparent backgrounds as prohibited material.
This technical glitch, ongoing since May, resulted in hundreds of users losing access to their profiles even during holiday periods. According to the company’s official statement, the automated system operates by comparing uploaded data against a database of harmful content.
Although this technology is designed to detect illegal material, it can occasionally produce false positives. Normally, any content flagged as suspicious should be reviewed by specialists.
However, due to a flaw in the system, users were blocked immediately without waiting for the AI verification result. The company has now announced that it has begun the process of restoring all unjustly blocked profiles.
On social media, users have expressed their frustration over the situation. Many believe the moderation system has become overly sensitive to geometric shapes.
This is because some law-abiding users attempt to evade automatic detection of prohibited content by using exactly such shapes. The incident once again demonstrates how risky it can be to fully rely on artificial intelligence on large platforms.
In particular, specialists whose work is directly tied to this platform are suffering serious harm from unexpected restrictions. Company representatives stated they will strengthen security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
This includes restoring wrongly blocked accounts, recalibrating image comparison methods, and making human oversight a mandatory step. Users in Uzbekistan who encounter similar issues are advised to contact support immediately.
