The name of the product that alleviates muscle pain was mentioned
Scientists from the Open University of Catalonia (Spain) state that turmeric can help reduce muscle damage levels after exercise and the inflammatory processes in the body, as well as decrease the risk of injuries. The research findings were published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (JISSN).
The scientists analyzed 11 previously published studies focused on the beneficial properties of turmeric, a tropical plant belonging to the ginger family. Although turmeric is popular in traditional Asian medicine, recent scientific research has proven that this root has objective therapeutic properties.
In the new meta-analysis, Spanish scientists confirmed that turmeric has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties as a supplement. These effects are particularly beneficial for individuals who engage in regular and intense exercise.
According to the scientists, taking curcumin before and after workouts helps accelerate muscle fiber recovery, alleviate pain, and enhance antioxidant capacity (the body's ability to cope with "stressful" oxidative processes).
Turmeric also reduces systemic inflammation, which decreases the likelihood of injury during exercise.
Experts suggest that healthy individuals should consume one to four grams of turmeric daily to benefit their health, researchers say. The recovery effect is especially important in eccentric exercises (where targeted muscles are used to control weight), which often cause the most damage to athletes.
