An ecological fee will be introduced for certain types of products in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Ministry announced this in a special presentation submitted to the President on August 14. In the first phase of the new regulation, six types of products will be included in the ecological fee system.
These include batteries and accumulators, vehicles, lubricants, packaging products, tires and rubber tubes, as well as glass products. According to the Ministry, currently a large portion of waste in the country is sent to landfills, but the recycling rate is low.
For example, only 17 percent of tires, 6.3 percent of glass, and 11.2 percent of plastic are recycled. The annual volume of waste is very large, with plastic waste amounting to 1.8 million tons, electronic waste 144 thousand tons, glass waste 647 thousand tons, oil waste 250 tons, and rubber waste 217 thousand units.
Additionally, by 2035, the volume of electronic waste is expected to increase by another 10 thousand tons. The introduction of the ecological fee aims to develop the waste recycling system, reduce environmental damage, and ensure efficient use of resources.
This will increase recycling capacity and reduce the flow of waste to landfills. At the same time, this system will serve to protect the environment and ensure sustainable development.
