New initiatives are being developed to introduce an environmental fee in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Based on the plan presented to the President by the Ministry of Ecology, opportunities to apply an environmental fee have been identified in the country with the aim of protecting the environment and effectively managing waste. This fee is mainly intended to be applied to six types of goods.
These include batteries and accumulators, vehicles including cars, lubricants, packaging products and various bags, tires and rubber tubes, as well as glass products. Currently, a large portion of waste is sent to landfills, which limits the efficient use of resources.
The recycling rate is still low; for example, tires are recycled at 17%, glass at 6.3%, and plastic at 11.2%. The annual volume of waste is as follows: plastic 1.8 million tons, electronic waste 144 thousand tons, glass 647 thousand tons, oil 250 tons, and rubber 217 thousand units.
According to experts, by 2035 the volume of electronic waste is expected to increase by another 10 thousand tons. This situation further emphasizes the importance of environmental protection and demonstrates the necessity of introducing an environmental fee.
