The city of Saint Petersburg in Russia has expressed its readiness to assist in establishing special classrooms in Uzbekistan aimed at developing Russian language education. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by the Zamin.uz website. This initiative was discussed on September 9, 2025, during the official visit of the Petersburg delegation led by Alexander Beglov to Uzbekistan.
During the visit, Governor Beglov met with Metropolitan Vikentiy of Uzbekistan in Tashkent and discussed bilateral humanitarian cooperation issues. Beglov emphasized that the history of the Tashkent diocese is deeply connected with the city of Saint Petersburg.
The first priest, Sofoniya, served precisely in Petersburg. He particularly highlighted the importance of dialogue between Orthodox and Islamic religious scholars.
At the end of the meeting, the city of Petersburg offered its assistance in establishing classrooms specialized in teaching Russian in Uzbekistan. Additionally, issues related to providing educational materials, training teachers, and implementing joint educational projects were also considered.
Furthermore, representatives of the two cities proposed organizing summer educational camps. These camps will teach the basics of Orthodox culture, which will contribute to further strengthening cultural ties between the two peoples.
During the visit, Governor Beglov participated in the opening ceremony of the "Leningrad Memorial" and signed a new cooperation program with Tashkent's mayor Shavkat Umurzoqov, planned until 2028. It is worth recalling that during Russian President Vladimir Putin's official visit to Uzbekistan on May 26-27, 2025, an agreement was reached between Moscow and Tashkent to expand cooperation in the field of Russian language learning (Zamin.uz).
