The international forum “The Great Heritage of the Past — The Foundation of an Enlightened Future” held in Tashkent was recognized as a historic event. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At this forum, one of the first printed Qur’ans published two hundred years ago was solemnly presented to Uzbekistan. This was reported by the “Madina” publishing house.
At the ceremony, Ilyos Saduriy, head of Russia’s “Madina” publishing house, personally handed over this unique gift to the Center of Islamic Civilization. Among the gifted books, the Qur’an published in Saint Petersburg in 1787 during the reign of Catherine II was of particular importance.
According to experts, this mushaf is one of the first and most complete printed copies of the Qur’an in the Islamic world. A special metal typeface was created for printing the book, and the decorations were done by the Tatar calligrapher Usmon Ismoil.
Historical sources indicate that the initial print run of this Qur’an, consisting of approximately 1,200 copies, was considered a major achievement in printing at that time. This publication was not only of religious significance but also an important step that laid the foundation for the development of Islamic printing and literature in Russia.
Later, the city of Kazan continued these traditions and became the center of Islamic publishing in the 19th century. This gift holds not only historical but also spiritual value.
Representatives of the Center of Islamic Civilization accepted it as a symbolic donation connecting the past with the future. Thus, this unique mushaf, preserved worldwide for two centuries, has once again returned to the lands of Uzbekistan and joined the spiritual wealth of our people.
