According to Azizbek Uronov, the representative for WTO affairs under the President, our country has successfully completed negotiations with Canada and Panama. Now Uzbekistan only needs to continue negotiations with three countries, but Uronov did not disclose the names of these countries.
In October 2023, Uzbekistan finalized agreements with the European Union regarding WTO accession. In September, negotiations with Argentina, Australia, and Honduras were successfully completed.
WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala stated at the end of September that Uzbekistan is approaching the final stage of the accession process. According to the plan, Uzbekistan is expected to become a full member of the WTO by spring 2026.
The World Trade Organization was established in 1995, with the main goal of regulating trade in goods, services, and intellectual property rights among countries. The WTO helps reduce trade barriers, ensure fair access to markets, and resolve trade disputes.
As of August 2024, the WTO consisted of 166 member countries.
