Analyses conducted on air quality in Tashkent city during the first ten days of November in 2024 and 2025 partially reflect the results of measures taken by the government. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Although the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached hazardous levels on some days, an overall decrease in the average indicator was observed. In the same period of 2024, the average AQI was 119.8, while in 2025 this figure dropped to 109.9.
However, on certain days, for example, November 3, 2025, the AQI was 176, and on November 9, it was 161. Nevertheless, on November 4, the AQI was recorded at 28, marking one of the best results in recent years.
Despite this, air pollution during the autumn-winter season remains a serious issue affecting the quality of life for residents. To address this problem, the government has adopted several laws and begun implementing systematic measures.
Specifically, programs aimed at improving atmospheric air quality in Tashkent have been developed. Within these programs, the gradual ban on fuels below the “Euro-4” standard and modernization of oil refineries are underway.
Additionally, large-scale “green zones” are planned to be established in the capital and its surroundings. In October 2025, new measures aimed at reducing emissions from industrial enterprises and greenhouses were introduced.
These measures also include the installation of modern dust and gas purification systems. The Tashkent administration, together with law enforcement agencies, is conducting environmental inspections.
Particular attention is being paid to identifying violations by coal-burning greenhouse farms. These measures are being implemented within the framework of the “green economy” strategy, declared as one of the country’s national priorities.
Despite statistical improvements, the situation remains complex. In particular, concentrations of fine particles such as PM2.5 exceed the World Health Organization’s recommendations on some days.
This indicates the necessity for consistent and long-term implementation of the adopted programs.
