International Water Week is planned to be held in Tashkent city in March next year. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Representatives of regional countries and international organizations will participate in this event. During the forum, issues of rational use of water resources and the introduction of modern “green” technologies will be discussed.
On December 15, information about this event was provided to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The head of state instructed to organize the International Water Week at a high level and to thoroughly prepare for the international forum on water-saving technologies in the territory of Karakalpakstan.
At the same time, measures to reduce energy consumption in the water sector were discussed. There are 274 pumping stations in the territory of Karakalpakstan, through which more than 185 thousand hectares of land are irrigated.
However, most of the pumps are outdated and consume 2-3 times more electricity compared to modern pumps. It was noted that after replacing one pump with a new one in Kegayli district, electricity consumption was reduced by half.
Now, it is planned to replace 276 pumps across the country with energy-efficient ones. As a result of this project, it will be possible to save 25 billion soums annually, and the project is expected to pay off within 14 months.
In addition, officials emphasized the importance of supporting local manufacturers. Information was also provided about the activities of the Tashkent Irrigation Institute.
Currently, 8,682 students are studying at this institute, and 571 teachers are working. The institute ranked first in Uzbekistan in THE World University Rankings 2026 and was included among the world's top 500 universities.
In the future, it is planned to create a digital platform at the institute to study climate change, develop work with satellite data, and establish an internationally recognized master's program in “Water Diplomacy.”
