Apple and Google Payment Systems Have Entered Uzbekistan

The recent decision by the Government of Uzbekistan is a significant step towards developing the country's digital economy. Zamin.uz reported on this matter.
Based on the President's new decree, serious amendments have been made to legislation regarding personal data protection. As a result of these changes, the main legal barriers have been removed for leading payment systems operating on a global scale, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal, to enter the country.
Under previous regulations, all companies were required to store their customers' personal data exclusively on servers located within the territory of Uzbekistan. This rule has long been a serious issue for major tech giants relying on international cloud infrastructure.
Now, under the updated law, permission is granted for a large portion of personal information to be stored on modern servers abroad. Of course, storage requirements remain as strict as before for data in the most sensitive areas, such as biometric and genetic information.
This news brings national legislation closer to international practice and expands opportunities for attracting foreign investors. Foreign companies will now be able to quickly launch their services in the Uzbekistan market without having to restructure their systems around local data centers.
This process also brings significant benefits to the country's banks and companies in the field of next-generation financial technologies. They will be able to use global cloud technologies more freely, improve service quality, and make prices competitive.
Market participants and experts assess that this liberalization will provide a strong impetus for the rapid development of contactless payments, digital finance, and e-commerce across the country. Undoubtedly, this step is a continuation of serious efforts to achieve set goals in aligning Uzbekistan's business environment with international standards.
In the future, the country's population will have the opportunity to efficiently use the most modern and convenient payment services in the world.
