Uzbekistan is planning to purchase electricity through the Rogun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Tajik government has approved a draft agreement on electricity supply with Tashkent. The text of this document has been published on the official website of the Ministry of Justice.
Payment for electricity will be made by the "Uzenergosotish" company. The price for 1 kilowatt-hour has been set at 3.4 US cents, including value-added tax.
Starting from the second year, the price will increase by 1 percent annually. Additionally, Tajikistan's "Barki Tochik" energy company plans to supply additional electricity to Uzbekistan.
This agreement between Tashkent and Dushanbe will last for 20 years and may be extended for 10-year terms thereafter. Disputes and disagreements will be resolved through negotiations and consultations.
The Rogun HPP is the largest hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan and is being built on the Vakhsh River. Its capacity is 3600 megawatts.
The first unit was launched in 2018, and the second unit was launched in 2019. In 2024, Tajikistan exported 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is a 7.8 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
The main buyers are Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Uzbekistan paid 18.4 million dollars for electricity last year.
