A new era in European security is beginning. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed clear and open thoughts in an interview with BBC Today. He emphasized that significant changes are beginning not only for Germany but for all of Europe.
Chancellor Merz described the Russian threat as serious and real. According to him, this threat is directed not only at Ukraine but also at the peace and political independence of Europe.
Merz stated that during a meeting in London to sign a comprehensive defense agreement between Germany and Great Britain, the cooperation between the two countries would reach a new level. The Chancellor has consistently supported Ukraine during the election campaign and traveled to Kyiv with the leaders of Britain and France just a few days after taking office.
Before taking office, he managed to amend the German constitution and significantly increase defense spending. According to Merz, Germany's defense is transitioning to the principle of "doing whatever is necessary."
Currently, the army's strength is insufficient, so significant funds are being allocated to strengthen it. The Chancellor also responded to criticisms from the American leadership regarding European security.
He noted that Europe used to be like a "rabbit," but now the situation has fundamentally changed. American partners expect more action from Europe, and today Europe is striving for this as well.
The comments by U.S. Vice President Jay DeVens at the Munich Security Conference regarding Europe not investing enough in defense had a significant impact. Merz stated that he has met with the U.S. president several times and is in regular communication.
He openly acknowledged that Europe's role in American politics has diminished in recent years. Therefore, European countries must take greater responsibility for their defense and security.
Currently, Germany, Great Britain, and France are actively working to strengthen the "triangle" security alliance. The recently signed friendship agreement between Germany and Great Britain is opening a new political and defense chapter in Europe.
Analysts suggest that for the first time in history, Europe is stopping to rely entirely on the U.S. for defense and is increasing its investments. Germany's initiative is making a significant contribution to this process.
As a result, a new era in European security is beginning. Now no one will be a "rabbit."
Chancellor Merz officially announced the opening of a new direction in European security. These changes will serve to strengthen political balance and security in the region.
