The Titanic disaster changed maritime safety
On April 15, 1912, one of the most famous maritime disasters in world history occurred. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The Titanic liner struck an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean and sank. This ship was considered the largest, most modern, and "unsinkable" maritime transport of its time.

The Titanic, built by the White Star Line, was making its maiden voyage from Southampton (England) to New York (USA). On board were not only wealthy individuals but also thousands of immigrants seeking a new life.

In total, there were 2,224 people on board. Approximately 1,500 of them perished, and only 705 survived.

The ship was 269 meters long and 28 meters wide. It had 20 lifeboats, which were insufficient to save all crew and passengers.

According to official reports, the highest number of casualties was recorded among third-class passengers. A total of 900 crew members were active on the ship.

During the disaster, the musicians on the Titanic played music until the last moments to calm the people. The ship struck the iceberg at 11:40 PM and completely sank around 2:20 AM, meaning the disaster occurred in less than three hours.

This disaster not only claimed many lives but also led to a reevaluation of international maritime safety standards. As a result, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea was adopted in 1914, and the number of lifeboats was mandated to be increased.

The Titanic tragedy became a significant turning point in the history of maritime transport worldwide
