Iran stops work due to hot weather
The Iranian government made an important statement through state television on August 5. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to official information, state institutions and banks in 15 out of 31 provinces, including the capital Tehran, will temporarily suspend their activities on Wednesday. This decision was made due to water shortages and excessive loads on the electricity grid caused by extreme hot weather.

However, not all sectors will face these restrictions. Medical institutions, private sector companies, and some bank branches will continue their work as usual.

This different approach aims to maintain the country's economic and social stability. The abnormal heat, which has been ongoing since mid-July, is expected to last at least five days.

The highest temperatures are recorded in southern Iran. For example, on August 3, the temperature in the city of Obodon exceeded 50 degrees.

Such heat has previously led to drastic measures being taken. In August 2023 and 2024, as well as at the end of July 2025, weekends were declared.

The government aims to reduce water and electricity consumption by announcing a temporary break in state institutions. Currently, the country produces 62 thousand megawatts of electricity per hour, but during peak demand times, this figure reaches 80 thousand megawatts.

Due to power shortages, electricity supply is temporarily suspended for 2-4 hours daily in Tehran and other major cities. This situation is causing significant difficulties for the population and production sectors.

According to local "Shargh" newspaper, many industrial enterprises are left without electricity for four days a week. This has brought the country's production level down to the levels seen during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Media outlets emphasize that Iran is experiencing an unprecedented level of drought in recent decades. As pressure on natural resources increases, the Iranian leadership is being forced to take swift and decisive measures in response to such extraordinary weather conditions.

These events are urging the population of the country to reconsider their lifestyle and activities, and to use natural resources wisely. Furthermore, such climate challenges are becoming significant on a global scale.
