The war in Gaza has been ongoing for almost two years, but Hamas continues to pay thousands of civilian employees every month through a secret system. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This system is dangerous and complex, based on cash. Hamas pays approximately 7 million dollars in total to about 30,000 civilian employees every 10 weeks.
The amount paid to each employee constitutes only 20 percent of their pre-war salary. Typically, this amount is around 300 dollars and is often delivered in unusable or damaged condition.
Due to the banking system being non-functional, employees receive money in secret locations. Salary recipients are sent secret messages via phone, for example, "Go have tea with a friend."
At the designated location, an unknown person hands over the money in an envelope and disappears immediately. An employee from the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Hamas stated in an interview that every time he goes to receive his salary, he says goodbye to his family.
He emphasized, "I might not come back this time." Israel is trying to strike this payment system.
Salary distributors are regularly targeted, making each payment operation life-threatening. Along with salaries, Hamas is also distributing food aid to its supporters.
However, since the aid is only given to families close to Hamas, discontent among the people is growing. During the war, Hamas is maintaining financial stability mainly through reserves of 700 million dollars secretly stored in underground tunnel systems before the war.
This funding allows the organization to continue its activities even in a complex situation.
