Widespread evacuation efforts have begun in Greece, Spain, and Portugal as forest fires intensify and approach urban areas. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In the third country, emergency management has been raised to the highest level and the relocation of residents to safe areas has been accelerated. According to Vasilis Vatrakoyanis, a representative of Greece’s firefighting service, at least 15 firefighters required medical assistance during the firefighting process.
Additionally, Greece is also assisting in extinguishing forest fires that have occurred in neighboring Albania. This indicates the effective functioning of the regional cooperation mechanism.
The situation in Spain is particularly serious. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed condolences over the death of a firefighter who was on duty in the Castilla y León region.
More than 8,000 people have been evacuated across the country. The fires around León have covered an area of over 38,000 hectares, causing significant damage to natural resources.
In Portugal, thousands of firefighters have been involved in combating fires that have been ongoing for several weeks. More than 900 firefighters have been mobilized to strengthen control over the fire outbreaks near the city of Arganil.
These efforts continue around the clock and require the effective joint implementation of water supply, logistics, and safety measures. The forest fires in Southern Europe have once again demonstrated the critical importance of emergency preparedness, evacuation plans, and rapid cooperation.
Paying attention to nature’s warnings and the joint actions of emergency services and the public are crucial for saving lives and property.
