Significant changes are planned to be introduced to traffic rules and the safety system in the United Kingdom. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the new regulations, additional restrictions will be imposed on drivers over 70 years old. They will be required to undergo a mandatory vision test once every three years.
If the quality of vision is found to be unsatisfactory, such drivers will be prohibited from driving vehicles. This information was provided by the Telegraph publication.
The new strategy will include not only restrictions related to vision but also other safety measures. For example, the allowable level of alcohol consumption will be significantly reduced.
Additionally, if there is a passenger not wearing a seatbelt, penalty points will be applied to the driver. These changes are expected to come into effect in the autumn months of this year.
Experts emphasize that these measures are primarily aimed at reducing road traffic accidents and fatalities involving drivers with impaired vision. Within the framework of the new system, additional medical examinations will also be introduced to detect serious illnesses such as dementia.
Furthermore, stricter penalties will be established against driving uninsured vehicles. Measures are also being taken to address the issue of license plates not being detected by surveillance cameras.
According to the Ministry of Transport, these changes were developed due to the increasing number of accidents and fatalities on the country's roads. The main goal of the new rules is to improve road safety, enforce strict measures against violations, and strengthen traffic order.
Experts believe that these restrictions could elevate the culture of road traffic not only in major cities but throughout the entire country. In this way, the level of road safety will significantly increase and accidents will be prevented.
