Another horrific tragedy has occurred in Nigeria. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In Unguvan-Mantau town of Malumfashi district, located in Katsina state in the northwest region, an attack carried out by an armed group has alarmed the entire country’s population. According to local sources, on August 19 during the dawn prayer, militants stormed the mosque, opened fire on peaceful civilians, resulting in many lives lost.
According to reports from Reuters agency and media.az publications, at least 50 people were killed as a result of the incident. Additionally, 60 citizens were abducted by the militants.
This indicates that the event is not only a tragedy but also a new source of danger and distress for the local population. Witnesses say that armed individuals arrived on motorcycles and fired towards the people inside the mosque.
Then they moved through the village streets, attacking more peaceful civilians. They even set fire to several houses.
This situation once again confirms that the lives and property of the village residents are completely at risk. According to Abubakar Sodiq Aliy, a representative of the Katsina state police, security forces have managed to apprehend some of the militants.
Furthermore, they prevented planned new attacks on two villages. However, the militants who escaped are still targeting the population through the Mantau area, posing a threat to people’s lives.
Experts emphasize that in recent years, the activity of illegal armed groups and criminal gangs has sharply increased in the northwestern regions of Nigeria. They attack villages, force residents and farmers into distress, stop travelers on roads to rob them, and engage in ransom activities.
Undoubtedly, this bloody incident in Unguvan-Mantau is a serious test for the country’s security. The local population demands that the government and security forces take decisive measures to ensure peace and stability.
