The United Nations (UN) has launched a new network in Pakistan aimed at effective migration management, combating human trafficking, and protecting human rights. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Within this initiative, the UN Network on Migration (UNNM) has officially started its activities. This platform brings together various UN agencies, government bodies, and civil society representatives to ensure a unified and systematic approach to the issues.
The network's activities are based on the Sustainable Development Goals targeted for 2030 and the Global Compact for Migration. Its main task is to ensure that migration is carried out through safe, legal, and humane means.
Muhammad Yahya, the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, was appointed as the head of UNNM. According to him, this project serves as an important platform to improve policies and practices in the field of migration.
As emphasized by Muhammad Yahya, the network aims to protect the interests of migrants, promote fair treatment towards them, and prevent human trafficking. Additionally, within the framework of the new network, the Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MMPTF) on Migration was established.
This fund is directed towards financing comprehensive measures against human trafficking, human smuggling, and rights violations against migrants in the country. The fund operates based on a "whole-of-society" approach, meaning that responsibility is shared not only by the government but also by the private sector, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations.
This initiative serves to make migration processes in Pakistan safer, more legal, and more humane.
